About Laura Facundo

Laura is a long time educator with a masters in international development. Before entering into the classroom Laura worked with a local Hispanic chamber of commerce and for the USDA in the civil rights department. These experiences compelled her to do two things: pursue an advanced degree grounded in sustainable policy development and to enter into the classroom to best understand the impacts of policy for students. After 6 years of teaching, Laura is interested in making the transition back to policy work. She is actively looking for positions that allow her to merge her experiences as an educator with her passion for sustainable holistic policy change for kids. Laura has a proven track record in raising academic achievement for her students. Her experiences with Great Minds, DC Public Schools, and MIRA compelled her to conduct extensive research and redesign social emotional teaching in her teaching position. Laura is familiar with federal education programming and has a deep understanding of the historical context of current educational policy. She has a deep commitment to closing the opportunity gap for immigrant and minority students. Laura’s book “Pablo Succeeds in School”, which is a guide on how to navigate the education system for immigrant students and families, is set to be released via amazon and damasosaka.com in a couple of months.
