About Laura Formentini

Health scientist with over 8 years of experience in molecular biology and genetics. I am currently moving into bioinformatics, with an increasing focus on data-driven approaches to biomedical research. I have a strong background in laboratory experimentation and am expanding my skills to include computational analysis, particularly in the context of genome-wide chromatin conformation studies. I am applying these new skills using Linux and Python-based environments, with the aim of contributing to interdisciplinary research in molecular medicine and genomics. Currently working on a project analyzing Hi-C data to investigate genome folding dynamics in ring chromosome syndromes. Technical skills- Wet-lab: PCR (all types: conventional, qPCR, digital PCR), Western blotting, Sanger sequencing & NGS, Long-read sequencing (e.g, Oxford Nanopore), DNA/RNA handling, cell cultures, library preparation for sequencing… - Bioinformatics: Focusing on tools for high-throughput data analysis and genomic data interpretation. Linux/Unix command line, Python (basic scripting, data wrangling with pandas, visualization with seaborn), Differential gene expression (DEGs) analysis, Genome-wide chromatin conformation data analysis (e.g, Hi-C), data preprocessing, quality control, and normalization, visualization of biological data (heatmaps, clustering, PCA).
