About Laura Harris

I taught school for eight years and primarily worked with junior high students. While I am certified to teach all four main subjects, I primarily taught English and Math and worked with students that were struggling in these areas. I tracked progress and implemented programs to reach a wide range of student learning levels. As teaching moved in a new direction based on test scores I decided to move into a new field. I became the data coordinator at Baptist Hospital. While in that position I collected data from each nursing unit and entered the data into spreadsheets designed within the hospital as well as the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators. I also worked with the Clinical Directors to edit all hospital procedures and enter them in a new software database. I attended meetings and typed minutes as well as taking on other administrative assistant duties. Toward the end of my time at Baptist I maintained employee files and completed payroll for the float pool. As I moved into the durable medical equipment field, I received training on new software systems, and eventually introduced and implemented the software from scratch and trained all other employees on its usage. I also learned how to do medical billing and coding following federal, state and commercial insurance guidelines. I gained knowledge of diagnosis codes, modifiers and other pertinent information that impacts reimbursements. Most recently, I became the office manager at a fertility clinic. During my short time there, I became a super user for their software. I spent time learning each aspect of the practice and implemented processes to make workflow more efficient. I also stepped into the role of clinical support staff when the need arose. In each field I have gained new knowledge that I apply to all areas to make processes as efficient as possible.
