Family, pride, and a healthy dislike for regrets. That’s the short answer to the question, “Why did you make the change from being a high school math teacher to a full time snow and ice management professional?” Admittedly, it is a rather unusual change. Although I had worked for the company during breaks in high school and college, my father insisted that I get a degree and pursue my own career. So I did. After a few years of teaching, I was presented with the opportunity to join the company full time. It was an interesting decision to have to make, but the short answer above pretty much rendered useless anything else on my “pros/cons” list for making the move. In the end, it’s an opportunity to allow my family’s work to continue on for another generation. Personally, I think that’s something pretty special, and I would have regretted seeing it go when it came time for my father to retire. I hate regrets. So here I am. And now I can't imagine doing anything else.
