About Laura Irwin

I am a passionate, award-winning, bilingual writer with experience in newspaper, magazine, newsletter, and public relations writing and editing. I was a writer for El Economista in Mexico City where I transcribed interviews and published articles daily in Spanish about money-saving techniques, start-ups in Mexico, and tips to navigating Mexico City and culture. I was responsible for creating engaging content about finances and business for readers aged 18-30. As the communications intern under Representative Cesar J. Blanco at the Texas State Capitol, I was responsible for writing press releases, social media posts, and op-eds in English and Spanish. I am currently the digital designer and content creator for the St. Edward’s University Honors Program newsletter. I collect student stories, conduct interviews, and design the newsletter using InDesign and Photoshop.I attended and presented research at the Conference on College Composition and Communication as well as the St. Edward’s University SOURCE Academic Conference and the Leadership Alliance National Symposium. I completed research at the Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Summer Research Program, studying how humorous images and artwork in medieval manuscripts also effectively appear in humorous Internet memes today. My research has been published in the St. Edward’s University Academic Journal as well as the University on-campus newspaper where I served as Copy Chief, supervising 4 copy editors and checking the publication’s grammatical and factual accuracy. I have been awarded with the Matthew Harris Endowed Scholarship and was placed on the Dean’s List for every semester at school.
