About Laura Kane

I’m a collaborative commercial lawyer with 13 years of experience working in Australia, Asia and Europe. I specialise in not specialising: a strong generalist, I head up a growing legal team supporting the Customer Group at Medibank, providing counsel on a wide range of initiatives in a highly regulated environment: from private health insurance products and marketing, to our rapidly expanding loyalty program, to corporate customer contracts, and loads in between. Prior to this, I worked for FedEx Express in Singapore and Amsterdam in international legal roles. I’ve supported and led complex corporate and commercial integration and strategic cross-functional projects. I’ve drafted and negotiated high value sales and purchase agreements and navigated multiple regulatory frameworks globally. I’ve advised on consumer law, advertising, loyalty programs, corporate and customer communications, e-commerce, procurement, sustainability, logistics, international conventions, disputes, privacy, compliance and more. I am passionate about talent development and diversity. I established a mentoring program for junior lawyers in the FedEx International Centre, was a founding member of FedEx Women’s Networks in both Singapore and Amsterdam, and am part of Medibank's Gender Equity Network. My core strengths as a lawyer and a manager emanate from my interests: I thrive on learning about new subject matters, people and places. My natural curiosity allows me to provide tailored, detailed and pragmatic solutions, balancing risk and compliance with strategic business objectives and growth. My ability to lead with empathy and openness cultivates a strong, connected, and happy team environment.
