About Laura Klein

I work on hard problems in climate, sustainability, and the environment. My primary interest is examining how climate change impacts how humans interact with and respond to the world. My childhood was spent exploring Northern California’s diverse ecosystems on foot, bike, and ski. I investigated tidepools on Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, backpacked in Desolation Wilderness, and climbed 14ers in the Southern Sierra, including a dicey ascent up Mt Whitney’s Mountaineers Route at 17. At Stanford University, I sought ways to turn my love for engaging with the natural world into an academic pursuit. I studied the ways climate and people interact through courses in the built environment, natural ecosystems, land stewardship, health and nutrition, and next-generation technologies. In the summers, I led outdoor trips for middle and high school students, and I saw how education and impact go hand-in-hand. Coming out of University, I took a special interest in regenerative agriculture as an intersection of disciplines where real innovation in climate and sustainability could produce outsized impact. Much of my work right now is spent on the application of sustainability and resiliency frameworks in an agricultural context to support a global scale up of ecosystem services and nature-based decarbonization. I am always looking for ways to build my sustainability and climate toolkit by digging into complex problems with great people. I believe in authentic connection, place-based action, and bold creativity.
