About Laura Loucks

Laura Loucks has a PhD in Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University. Her interdisciplinary research interests include community resilience, fisheries co-management, community-based monitoring, social-ecological systems analysis, and environmental education. Laura was previously the Research Director at the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust, which oversees the mandate of the UNESCO Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Region, and is a member of the Community Conservation Research Network (CCRN). This is a group of world-class researchers and community organizations located in 11 study sites around the world, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and hosted at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Laura has also recently co-authored a publication on community science which explores the interrelationship between place, transformational learning and conservation. Insights on the linkages between communities and conservation, particularly those related to environmental governance and social-ecological system feedback, yields important lessons for policy makers and decision makers at all levels.
