About Laura MacConaill

Scientific Director of the Center for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics at BWH, and Scientific Director of the Personalized Cancer Medicine Partnership (Profile), a collaborative venture between Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber and Boston Children’s Hospital; Assistant Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. My research activities and achievements are focused in the areas of cancer research, precision cancer medicine, technology development and application to genomic interrogation of cancers, and translation of discovery efforts into CLIA and clinical tests to improve diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options for adult and pediatric patients. My group led the translation of the first high-throughput genotyping technology to profile human cancers for “actionable” cancer gene mutations. This enabled our precision cancer medicine initiative at these institutions as a means to stratify cancer patients for optimal therapeutic regimens (targeted therapies) and clinical trial enrollment. We also led the implementation of massively parallel sequencing as a clinical tumor genomic profiling approach at our institutions. Over patient profiles have been generated to date, and this work has enabled precision medicine initiatives at many cancer centers worldwide. I have authored/ co-authored over 100 publications and speak nationally and internationally on topics related to precision cancer medicine. We have recently expanded beyond cancer to SARS- CoV-2 testing as well as non invasive prenatal diagnostics Specialties: Precision cancer medicine, cancer genomics, next-generation sequencing and technology development, clinical implementation of technologies, molecular biology and microbiology, scientific consulting.
