About Laura Maliszewski

I am the Founding Executive Director of the Harvard Program in Therapeutic Science (HiTS) and the HMS Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology (LSP). HiTS is an interdisciplinary program that supports a number of innovation programs at HMS including the Harvard-MIT Center for Regulatory Science, which I co-Direct, and the HealthTech Fellowship. Combining a life long interest in the mechanisms of human disease and a frustration with the human capacity for analysis of large incongruent data sets, I joined the Harvard Medical School Initiative in Systems Pharmacology in 2012. In July 2013 the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology opened at HMS – a shared innovation space on the Harvard Medical Quadrangle, undertakes collaborative research projects with industry and regulatory partners to co-develop methods for evaluation of drug mechanism, toxicity and efficacy. In between completing my PhD in Virology at Harvard and starting HiTS, I served as a Scientific Officer in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office coordinating international research collaborations and supporting UK policy development around life sciences innovations. I focused on the study and design of systems that nurture and initiate innovation. This fed directly into UK policy objectives for regenerative medicine and gene therapy, including the planning for the Catapult Technology Innovation Centers.
