About Laura Ohl

Research excites me because we can development novel therapeutics for detrimental neurological diseases. My passion will ensue throughout my research career, and more immediately in a entry level scientist position in Industry by the end of 2023. As a PhD candidate in the Cell and Molecular Biology Program, my thesis work focuses on uncovering the mechanism of neurodevelopmental delay in BCAA disorders. By studying the mechanism of pathogenesis, we can better understand disease mechanisms and develop targeted therapeutics to treat neurodevelopmental and other neurological disorders. In my new role, I would like to expand my knowledge of therapeutic development and translational research. I would like to learn more about how to efficiently translate cell and gene therapies to patients with neurological diseases that lack disease modifying therapies. My future goals are to pursue a career in research and development to translate promising therapies into the clinic and to patients to give them the opportunity to combat neurodegenerative disease.
