Background

About Laura Sheppard

I’m a PhD researcher at the University of Cambridge (Department of Clinical Biochemistry, MRC Institute of Metabolic Science) and a NovoSTAR PhD Fellow (Novo Nordisk). My thesis,'Cerebrovascular Rarefaction and its Cognitive Impact in Metabolic Disease', is submitted and my viva upcoming. My research investigates how cerebrovascular changes in metabolic disease increase the risk of dementia. My approach combines in vivo research with advanced imaging (3D light-sheet microscopy, MRI) and large-scale data analysis (R, Python, GraphPad Prism). I also bring experience in genomic medicine and bioinformatics.I’m an active STEM communicator with extensive outreach, teaching, and public engagement experience. My current focus is on preparing manuscripts for publication, before I will be relocating to Copenhagen in October 2026. I’m now exploring Copenhagen-based industry roles where I can combine my biomedical insight, data-driven thinking, and strong scientific communication skills to support projects with real-world impact.
