About Laura Sims

I have been teaching in a variety of classroom settings from preschool to middle school since 1992. In college, I managed the 3-5 pm program at the University of Akron Child Development Center. I then began my family while teaching at a half-day preschool program. In 2001, I took over as the Director of the preschool. I managed the daily operations of the school, as well as four classrooms and teachers. When my children were old enough for school, I began my teaching career in the public schools. In the schools,I had to effectively communicate with parents, supervisors, and therapists, as well as regular education teachers. I have received training in Standards based IEP's and curriculum, Alternate Assessments, Intervention Assistance Teams, icon to I CAN workshop, TEACCH, Behavioral Intervention and Play, Applied Behavior Analysis, Adaptive Books, and Orton-Gillgham Multi-Sensory approach to reading (not full training). I joined the committee to adopt a curriculum for the Low Incidence disability population.
