About Laura Timms
I am an ecologist with over 20 years of experience in research, applied science and scientific communication. In my current position at CVC, I leverage biodiversity data to develop tools and strategies for conservation and management. I love nature and enjoy sharing my passion to help others connect with nature - especially through community science projects and public speaking. I am also currently an adjunct professor in Forestry at the University of Toronto and teach a course in forest insect ecology. I have spent time at the University of Guelph (BSc Hon 2001), Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the University of Toronto (MScF 2005, PhD 2010), and at McGill University (postdoctoral researcher, 2010-2012). I have done research on insect diversity, invasive species, biological control, and conservation, and have published academic papers on these topics. I have served on numerous professional committees and boards, including the Committee for the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario and the State of Ontario's Biodiversity Report committee. I am also currently a subject editor at The Canadian Entomologist.
