About Laura Young

I am a Public Relations Specialist with experience in event management, fund development, communications, and government relations. I have worked with Edmonton Opera and in a number of positions at the University of Alberta as well as with the Parkinson Association of Alberta. Much of my work experience involves dealing with high touch donors, senior government officials and senior staff. I am currently completing my Public Relations Diploma at Macewan University and am interested in pulling from all parts of my background as I move forward in my career. I hold an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Calgary as well as a B.A. in the same from Mount Allison Univeristy in Sackville, New Brunswick. I have a certificate in Arts and Cultural Management from MacEwan and am currently enrolled in the Public Relations program. I also had the opportunity to attend the UWC-USA in Motezuma, New Mexico where I received my International Baccalaureate diploma. From my school days I have always had a great appreciation for the arts, particularly voice and theatre. In university I became involved in technical theatre and now am involved with a number of organizations that further these pursuits including Edmonton's Walterdale Theatre and the Accord Ensemble. Through my involvement with various arts organizations I have had the opportunity not only to improve my skills in production and performance but to serve on boards as well, improving my understanding of board operations and governance.
