About Laurel Bill

Hi, I'm Laurel Downing Bill, author of the critically acclaimed Aunt Phil's Trunk Alaska history books. My five-volume series, which debuted in 2006, won two gold medals in the 2016 Literary Classics International contest: One for Best Nonfiction Series and one for Best Historical Nonfiction. The books are great for kids ages 9 to 99! I enjoy researching and writing about Alaska's colorful past and assisting other Alaska authors realize their dreams of publishing their own stories about the Great Land. When speaking at clubs, conferences and small gatherings, I tap into my lifetime of unique experiences as a third-generation Alaskan, a woman telephone executive in a man's world during the 1980-90s, a late-blooming college student, who earned her journalism degree at the tender age of 52, and my battle with the bottle – now 20 years sober. I also conduct workshops that take aspiring authors through the first steps of writing and editing their manuscripts to how to publish and market their books.
