About Lauren Atkinson

My name is Lauren Atkinson, I have a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from Northcentral University. I also have an honours Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University, double major in Psychology and Sociology; additionally I graduated from the Behavioral Science Technology – Intensive program at George Brown College. I have worked as a Behaviour Therapy for Kerry’s Place Autism Services for 9 years, working with adults with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, most of which having a dual diagnosis with a co-occurring mental health concern. During my Masters program, I completed two student internships. The first at Catholic Family Services – Peel Dufferin from September 2017 to April 2018, the second at Thrive Counselling from May 2018 to April 202. During my internships I was able to gain experience with both single-session walk-in clients, as well as ongoing brief therapy. I have worked primarily from an emotionally-focused therapy and narrative therapy approaches, with solution-oriented aspects. I have some experience with cognitive behaviour therapy and dialectic behaviour therapy. I have worked with most nationalities and cultures, as well as a variety of presenting concerns. I have experience working with clients in the following areas of practice: Anxiety, Panic Attacks, OCD, ADHD, Depression, Bi Polar, Borderline Personality Disorder, self-harm, suicidality, substance use, trauma, family conflict, marital conflict, co-parenting, domestic violence, and adult survivors of child abuse. I have experience with individuals, couples, and families.
