About Lauren Barlis

I've been in education since 2003, when I started as a substitute teacher at my old high school. My experiences teaching at the high school and collegiate level have driven home the extent to which our education systems can systematically disenfranchise certain groups of students instead of acting as the great equalizer. The instructional content I have created for teachers since 2008 focuses on the importance of truly seeing and valuing the dignity of each student. I have created content for face-to-face and webinar-based professional learning for hundreds of educators across the state of Florida, in content areas such as Teaching Children in Poverty, Differentiated Instruction, Social Foundations of Education, The Impact of Systemic Racism on the Classroom, and Parental Engagement. The fully remote team under my leadership at Step Up For Students served private schools across the state of Florida and increased the number of schools accessing our courses by 50% over three years.
