About Lauren Neldner

I am currently wrapping up my master's degree program in Medical Physics at Duke University. My master's thesis project was done in collaboration with the Clinical Imaging Physics Group (CIPG) at Duke Health and the Department of Pathology. I conducted an exploratory study of displays currently used by pathologists for clinical interpretation of digital whole slide images. Project deliverables included the characterization of monitor fleet display quality and the formulation of a color prediction model that can be used to design a QC algorithm for monitor color correction. I was also involved in the collaborative project investigating tissue batch effects on digital pathology images. In addition to my research, I helped redesign the MR safety courses that will be implemented hospital wide. Prior to coming to Duke, I worked on research projects in geophysics, seismology, and musical acoustics where I gained both programming and hands-on experimental troubleshooting skills. I have presented my academic research at several conferences and contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications. My communication skills were further developed during my two years as a middle school science teacher, where I also became well versed in curriculum design and project management. I am extremely passionate about making science accessible and engaging to all.
