Background
About Lauren Scriba
Hi there! My name is Lauren Scriba and I am currently an M.S.Ed graduate student at Northwestern University studying Secondary Teaching with a content area in History. My education at Northwestern has been filled with brilliant research surrounding culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive methods of co-design with families and communities. The more I learn, the more eager I become to implement these practices in my classroom environment. My passion for teaching was brought about by my experiences as a Registered Behavior Technician, nanny, and tutor. The epiphanic nature of the educational journey is something I hold dear to my heart, and thus, I became an educator to support students in their discoveries and epiphanies in the classroom. It was in my experience as an RBT that I truly became an advocate for the idea of individualized success, identifying that children are inherently diverse and therefore, their approach to learning will be as well. With that in mind, I work hard to discover my student’s preferred learning methods so we may collaboratively set goals and operate as a team. Ultimately, I want my classroom to be a space where students feel safe, capable, heard, and motivated. My goal is to design the learning environment in concert with student voices so that their identities and senses of self are reflected and noticeable in the curriculum. I believe a direct connection to the educator, the environment, and the self supports student academic success and development. For, as Grace Lee Boggs once said,"When young people can see themselves making a difference, they also become different." I am always open to connection and conversation. Send me a message or an email and let's discuss your perspectives on educational research, learning sciences, psychology, criminal justice, history, and more! There's always more to learn!
