About Laurens Kling

Creating frontends with my own company 'Goed idee media'​ or joining your (agile) team. Currently focussing on Gatsby, Strapi, Docker, GraphQL and React. Javascript is the greatest. I love making webapps in React. I've jumped fully into the React world, being part of the community, offline (conferences, meetups) and online (joining open source development). Before that I was into BackboneJS development. I have a big interest in surrounding technologies like NodeJS, Webpack, GraphQL, Redux, Flow/TypeScript, Docker and not to forget Developer eXperience. VirtualDOM and universal rendering (isomorphic) make up for a lot of gaps we used to have in JS development. Programming pure functional, immutable and one-way data driven makes writing (and debugging) frontends easier and fun again :) I come from a styling background and still keep informed about the latest CSS proposals. I cannot imagine not having flexbox anymore. The key to good stylesheets is consistency, refactoring, thinking in components and using it as sheets, not as a list of specific element styles. And yes, I support inline styles. If you don't, you don't get it. Among many other reasons, we use Gatsby because it allows us to create 100/100 pagespeed PWA's. And we do. Completely optimized for speed, secure and safe websites and apps. Sharing knowledge is a great thing.
