About Laurent Huber

Executive Director of ASH; a US based non-governmental organization fully devoted to supporting global health and international tobacco control efforts. First founding Director for over 15 years of the Framework Convention Alliance (FCA), an international coalition of over 500 Non-Governmental Organizations from more than 100 countries, widely recognized by governments, Non-Governmental Organizations and Intergovernmental Organizations for its vital role in shaping the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), the world’s first global public health treaty. Played an influential role in developing the FCA's into a powerful and well-respected global health and tobacco control force that has influenced and strengthened numerous global governance mechanisms including the UN Sustainable Development Goals. While directing ASH and the FCA, Laurent helped facilitate the integration of tobacco control alongside non-communicable diseases and its risk factors in the UN and global development agendas and now leads campaigns to strengthen the link between the tobacco contro, human rights and environmental communities. Fluent in 4 languages has contributed to numerous articles and has spoken at events for media, public health, academic institutions, WHO, UN and others in more than 50 countries across the globe. Served on a number of panels and Advisory Boards for academic institutions, corporations, and intergovernmental organizations that address health policy matters. Received the American Lung Association-C. Everett Koop Foundation Award in 2005 and an award from the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia in 2007. Under his leadership and direction, the FCA also received the prestigious Luther Terry Award in 2006, the Premio SEDET in 2008, the WHO World No Tobacco Day Award in 2011, and ASH was awarded the Health Leadership Award by the U.S. Surgeon General in 2014. Holds a post graduate degree in Education with a focus on Exercise Physiology research.
