About Laurie Smith

As a physical therapist, I have developed and expanded my skills in the treatment of patients with orthopedic conditions, pelvic floor disorders and women during and/or after childbirth. I am certified through the American Physical Therapy Association Section on Women's Health for treatment of the pelvis. Additionally, I hold a certification in manual therapy from the former Institute of Physical Therapy which expanded to its current location as The University of St. Augustine. I have attended a variety of continuing education courses over the years including topics such as ergonomics, injured runner rehab, Postural Restoration Insitute coursework, visceral manipulation, foot biomechanics, management of the pregnant client, etc. I have also served as a staff physical therapist and manager for the local hospital in my town. In 2007 I sought to expand the offerings and awareness around women's health physical therapy by founding and growing a private practice, Balanced Body Physical Therapy. I successfully sold this practice to my current employer, Active Physical Therapy, where I have further grown women's health services by mentoring two other therapists. I am currently employed by Active PT in a part time position where I continue to treat women's and men's pelvic health patients as well as orthopedic patients including the pregnant or post partum clients.
