About Lavon Williams

Even though I'm a retired USAF veteran, I still live and practice by the USAF's Core Values:"Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do" My nursing career has been a very fulfilling journey! I started out 25 years ago as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in 1994 then became an LPN in 1996, EMT-Basic in 1997 and an RN in 2001. I am licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) under State Compact Agreement and as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) with Prescriptive Authority and I am ANCC Board Certified as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (GNP-BC). I hold a Master of Nursing degree from the University of South Alabama where I studied advanced practice nursing in geriatrics, a Post-Master’s certificate from University of Southern Mississippi as a Psychiatric NP and a Post Master’s certificate from University of Massachusetts (Boston) as an Adult NP. I’m also board certified as a Med-Surg Nurse. My compassion for the older population has led me to earn my DNP degree with a subspecialty in Palliative Care and Nurse Education. This adventure began in 2011 and thus far it has been quite a journey. As I moved up the career ladder, each job experience has allowed me to expand my knowledge, as well as, broaden my career. With my Doctorate degree, I plan to continue teaching and working as an advanced practice nurse. What I have found to be the most challenging during my career was learning how to balance work, home, and school altogether. Last, but not least, I recently retired from the military after serving for over 20 years. The next big challenge is starting my own clinic and continue to pursue my education as a gerontologist.
