Lawrence Krakauer

Background

About Lawrence Krakauer

I'm retired, not seeking work - the following is just to provide background information. I'm an Electrical engineer, strong in both hardware (primarily digital) and software design, and in the tight integration of hardware and software. A good synthesizer, with particular experience with inexpensive microprocessor-based products that control cost by trading hardware for software in clever ways. An imaginative brainstormer, and a very good troubleshooter. 4/79 - 10/03: Kronos Incorporated, Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Vice President - Research and Development. Worked on both the hardware and software of Kronos's initial product, one of the world's first microprocessor-controlled time clocks. Was at Kronos through a public offering in 1992, and as the product line grew into an integrated suite of human resources, payroll, scheduling, and time and labor software applications. I retired in October, 2003. 4/74 - 4/79: Codex Corporation. Designed hardware and firmware for a line of Statistical Multiplexers. 12/70 - 4/74: Micronetic Systems, Inc. Managed software development for a minicomputer-controlled industrial machine that trimmed thick-film resistors using a neodimium-doped YAG laser. Education: S.B.('63), S.M.('64), and Ph.D.('70) in Electrical Engineering, MIT. Ph.D. thesis on visual pattern recognition by computer, advisor Marvin Minsky, in Artificial Intelligence group.
