About Lawrence Yip

Lawrence is an Urban Designer & Planner with over 15 years of experience in delivering and approving planning projects ranging from mixed-use transit oriented developments, institution campus planning & design, business park planning & design, and waterfront planning & design. As the Supervisor of Urban Design at the City of Markham, Lawrence oversees the comprehensive review of development applications across Markham ranging from high-density mixed-use developments to low-density subdivisions. He is currently involved in a number of planning initiatives including the Markham Centre Secondary Plan, Yonge Corridor Secondary Plan, Markville Secondary Plan, Markham Road Mount Joy Secondary Plan, Yonge North Subway Extension project, and Bridge Station TOC project. On the special projects side, he has spearheaded the Interim Parkland Cash in lieu study, Parkland Acquisition Strategy study, and more recently Markham's Parkland By-law Update. Some of his notable work during his private sector practices includes the award winning Port Credit West Village (Bright Water) Master Plan in Mississauga, Metrolinx's Oakville Go Station Functional Site Plan, City of Toronto's Eglinton East LRT Design Study, a number of New Town Developments for the Planning Department of Hong Kong, and Waterfront Community Design for the Government of Macau. Lawrence holds a Master's Degree in Urban Design from The University of Hong Kong where he served as the President of the student governing body in 2016, and a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson University (TMU) in Toronto. He is a LEED AP ND, and a Candidate Member of the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI) and the Canadian Institute of Planner working towards full membership.
