About Lawrence Yule

I am currently a PhD student at the University of Southampton, investigating potential methods of measuring temperature in extremely harsh conditions (up to 1500C in jet engines) using ultrasonic guides waves. I previously worked for Solent Acoustics as part of Solent University, as both a research assistant and associate lecturer. During my time there I completed the Institute of Acoustics Diploma In Acoustics and Noise Control, followed by an MSc in Applied Acoustics. I carried out consultancy work as part of Solent Acoustics; engaging with clients, writing quotes, carrying out measurements, and writing reports. I hold a BSA (British Society of Audiology) Certificate in aural impression-taking, and I am an associate member (AMIOA) of the Institute of Acoustics. I have an interest in many different aspects of acoustics, with experience of- Sound insulation testing- Reverberation time measurement- Speech intelligibility measurement- Environmental noise monitoring and assessment- Acoustic modelling using CATT and CADNA- Insertion loss measurement- Sound power calculation- Headphone, loudspeaker and microphone testing- Audiometry- Vibration analysis- Hemi-anechoic and fully anechoic chambers- NTi Flexus and National Instruments data acquisition systems- Programming languages such as Matlab, NI LabView, and R. I have produced and contributed to a number of research papers and posters for events such as Reproduced Sound, and IOA conferences.
