Background

About Layne Davis

Hi, my name is Layne Davis and I graduated in Spring 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Peace & Justice Studies and Political Science with a minor in Women & Gender Studies! I have strong interests in advocacy, policymaking, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. I grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire and moved to NYC for university. Being a young woman of color in predominantly white spaces, I gained a deep interest in racial justice at a very young age. I became interested in my field because of my passion for racial and social justice. Since then I have taken courses in Reconciliation and Transitional Justice, Nonviolence: Theory and Practice, and Racial Justice, which have taught me that I have the power to influence and transform societal institutions, and increase peace and justice in my communities. In Fall, 2023 I had the opportunity to intern at the Ecumenical Office to the United Nations, where I recorded meetings and conducted research. This experience helped me develop oral and written communication skills, and gain knowledge regarding the UN system, how civil society organizations function, and advocacy work on an international scale. This past Summer, 2024, I worked as the Program Assistant for the Transparency, Accountability, & Participation (TAP) Network, to promote Sustainable Development Goal 16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. In this role I learned about community engagement, advocacy, social media engagement, and project management. I had the amazing opportunity to attend the High Level Political Forum at the United Nations which was deeply inspiring. Most recently, I was granted the chance to speak at First Committee on behalf of the Youth 4 Disarmament Initiative, which was absolutely surreal. As of now I am working as a Resident Assistant at Pace University, and as a Teacher's Assistant for Peace and Justice Studies 101. I am seeking entry level positions in advocacy, policymaking, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. I am open to any new opportunities to learn and grow as a professional. Moving forward I am interested in pursuing a career in advocacy which would allow me to engage in community organization and outreach and devote my skills to inclusion and relationship building.
