I’m building a speedometer for the brain called CogSpeed. This revolutionary technology, based on sound human-engineering design principles, rapidly, reliably, and affordably assesses the risk of human error caused by five main sources of performance degradation: fatigue, drugs, alcohol, brain trauma, and aging. High-value assets can be protected by denying access to impaired personnel. Providing instant feedback, it can be used to alert workers and their management when their cognitive ability has degraded to the point where they are a danger to themselves or others. The cognitive capability of any size workforce can monitored anywhere in the world, and automatic fitness reports to a company’s safety organization will prompt real-time corrective action. CogSpeed can provide vital information from any international workforce, creating a world-wide range of uses in the transportation, energy, and construction industries, the military, shift work operations, medical facilities, nursing homes, and so forth. On the athletic field, it could be used for initial concussion screening and follow-up recovery tracking. Employed for personal use, it can provide anyone immediate knowledge of their ability to function or drive safely. The potential applications are endless.
