Background
About Lea Duran
I occupy many roles in life, and many have a common theme as an authentic leader driven to make meaningful change in this world. I have always joked that being a nurse seemed like a great idea at the time when I decided to pursue my BSN. But fittingly, the field of nursing, and addiction medicine, has served to be my life’s work. I strive to be a leader of change elevating the standard of healthcare for all in my community. At OhioHealth, I am a team member of the Addiction Medicine Service. My role includes assisting with the addiction program development while maintaining an innovative spirit standardizing substance use disorder care within the 3rd largest health care organization in Ohio. I have a strong focus on coaching the adult learner, overseeing clinical operations, process improvement, maternal/infant dyad care management and pharmacological treatment components of substance use disorders (SUD). In addition, I lead and develop individualized learning plans for addiction medicine advanced practice providers to transition into autonomous start up roles expanding to new hospitals within our system. I also serve as faculty under medical education guides and mentors medical students, advanced practice students, physician residents and, fellows on treatment of substance use disorders in diverse populations across all practice settings through advocacy, collaboration, education, research, and policy development. Since joining Grant, I am passionately invested in leveraging my previous experience as a neonatal intensive care unit RN by providing specialized substance use disorder care to the maternal-infant dyad contributing to improving outcomes for those dyads affected by substance use disorders. I am privileged to collaborate as an Addiction and family medicine nurse practitioner with Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists, Family Medicine physicians and OBGYN’s to prevent disease and eliminating health disparities among women and children affected by substance use disorder, especially in vulnerable and underserved populations.
