Starting my PhD in September at WUR, my research "Seeds of Resilience: Can Diversification Protect Dutch Grassland Carbon from Global Warming?" investigates how grassland diversification can protect vital soil carbon stocks under global warming. My work aims to mechanistically understand how increased plant diversity influences soil carbon dynamics and microbial respiration under warming scenarios. We will integrate laboratory incubation, mesocosm experiments and kinetic models (e.g. MMRT) to quantify the drivers of the temperature response and improve existing carbon cycle models. My goal is to provide insights into the feedback between soil carbon dynamics and global warming needed for sustainable agricultural management strategies and more accurate climate predictions. I was awarded a personal research grant under the WIMEK honours program for my PhD research.
