About Leah John

As a UCLA student majoring in Public Affairs and Economics, I am passionate about using legal and policy frameworks to advance women's rights and expand access to justice. My academic and professional experiences have allowed me to work at the intersection of law, policy, and economic analysis, equipping me with the tools to drive meaningful change. At the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, I serve as a JusticeCorps Intern, assisting self-represented litigants—many of whom are survivors of domestic violence—in navigating the legal system. I specialize in preparing restraining order paperwork and ensuring that individuals receive the resources they need to protect themselves and their families. My work has reinforced my commitment to making the legal system more accessible, particularly for women facing systemic barriers. Beyond the courthouse, my policy experience spans research and development roles at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. At HUD, I assisted in rolling out the NSPIRE evaluation system and developed training materials, utilizing data analysis to assess policy impact. Additionally, my research at UC Berkeley has involved cleaning and analyzing large datasets on crime and intimate partner violence using R Studio and Stata, allowing me to contribute to evidence-based policy recommendations. My ability to synthesize quantitative research with legal and policy considerations strengthens my approach to addressing systemic issues. I am eager to continue exploring the intersection of law, policy, and data-driven solutions, with a focus on family law and women's legal rights.
