About Leah Martinez

I discovered my passion for landscape architecture in a course called Drawing a Green Future: Fundamentals of Visual Representation and Creativity. I also took a course called Introduction to Environmental Design. I loved learning about how design can be used to appreciate and protect the natural environment. Currently, I am taking a course called Latinx and the Environment that has connected me with other Latinx students pursuing environmental-related careers. My passion for education began during my freshman year of high school when I was a teacher's aide for a kindergarten class at All Souls Catholic School. I am continuing to expand on my experience in education as a volunteer student teacher for the program Cal CREATE (Creative Residencies for Emerging Artists Teaching Empowerment). My co-student teachers and I teach a weekly visual arts class at Sylvia Mendez Elementary School for students in grades 3-5. Creativity has been a personal passion of mine since I was very young. I am grateful that I have found opportunities on campus to help me grow as an artist. When I am not illustrating for the Daily Cal I like to make art inspired by nature, my culture, and my upbringing in San Francisco.
