About Leah Pedersen

While going through two internships in the field of law enforcement I have learned many things. Throughout the experience I have gained knowledge about the hiring process and the duties of being an officer that most civilians are not aware of. In the field of law enforcement officers need to keep a level head in stressful situations. I believe that I have a good ability to stay calm when others around me are not. Some other traits I have that are good for law enforcement include good communication skills with people who I am not familiar with, leadership skills that involve fellow officers and people skills. I am aiming for my future employer to be a larger police department. I hope that this department will have a strong K-9 program with both drug and bomb dogs. Most police departments have a SWAT team or special units that allow a few different options if an officer is looking for more areas to go into. Many of the departments I have looked into have a large number of female officers. While looking into a job after graduation, I have looked intensely into the option of an entry level job with the federal government. I hope to gain experience to move up the chain to become an agent or detective.
