About Leah Simons

I have a diverse background in secondary science teaching and lecturing in universities. My passion is science and producing enthusiastic, innovative science teachers. I worked as a secondary science teacher for ten years, teaching years 11 and 12 geology, biology, chemistry, physics and health as well as developing curriculum. While completing my PhD at the university of Adelaide, I lectured geology curriculum, tutored socio-cultural issues in education and student teacher interaction as well as supervising pre-service teachers. At Charles Darwin University I lectured Science Curriculum for Primary and Secondary teachers, external and internal modes. Coordinated the Graduate Diploma in Education and Double Degree in Science and Education students as well as tutoring Teaching and Learning. I successfully developed course materials with an entirely Indigenous committee at Bachelor Institute of Indigenous Education. At James Cook University I was the program and subject coordinator for Graduate Diploma of Education 1-10 and Master of Teaching. Secondary Academic Advisor and Program Coordinator. Lecturer of Science Curriculum, Educational Psychology and Professional Practices I and II. Coordinator of Inclusive Education. Supervisor of pre-service teachers. I am enthusiastic, enjoy learning, have a broad background in lecturing and am passionate about education.
