About Leanne Hancock

In my current position, I am applying a number of geochemical techniques to quantify contamination of groundwater and surface water in Michigan from human activities. My dissertation work centered around three chunks of time in geologic history, all of which have ties to the hydrocarbon production in marine subsurface sediments. 1) Cretaceous and modern hydrocarbon seep settings: Developing a proxy for sulfate reduction rates as tied to methane fluxes 2) Miocene Monterey Formation deposition: How climatic changes affected upwelling patterns along the western coast of North America, and subsequent effects on redox changes and nutrient limitation on organic matter deposition In addition to my research, I am interested in pursuing extracurricular activities that educate the general public about climate-related science. It is a passion of mine to share and promote the knowledge of the scientific community with non-scientists to further a global understanding of the complexities of the Earth system.
