About Leanne Hazon

My career at CBC has been quite a journey. I began in Toronto as a junior news producer working weekends with reporters to produce TV news stories. Eventually, this position took me to many countries, where I met people from all walks of life and had the privilege of telling their stories. I then progressed to the position of Senior Producer of the Entertainment and Health Units, overseeing coverage of stories such as Jian Ghomeshi, the final Tragically Hip concert and the Zika and Ebola viruses. I subsequently moved to Vancouver to become a Senior Producer at The National, CBC’s flagship nightly newscast and in my current role as National Assignment Editor for B.C, I juggle material for eight shows on three platforms. As a hands-on leader, I offer two decades of experience as a communicator, storyteller, manager and mentor. I can identify critical priorities and discover and pitch stories. My superpower is seeing and strategizing around the big picture while juggling operational details and quickly mobilizing teams, and synthesising information into compelling narratives and comprehensive stories. I possess an innate sense of determining what is required and can connect the dots to create effective material that reaches the intended audience. I can think on my feet while responding to high-pressure situations that require quick decisions and immediate action! I am an open and non-hierarchical leader who has built strong relationships at all levels of the organization. I am committed to growing and developing team members, identifying their strengths and leveraging them to increase their skills and solidify employee engagement. My experience includes extensive stakeholder relationships across a broad cross-section of government and industry sources to create content and deepen connections that further the organization’s strategic goals.
