About Leanne Hickman

I became interested in science and the environment from an early age. I have innate empathy for all creatures and have always been curious about the environment and enthusiastic about science. While I was earning my degree at McGill in Environmental Studies and Biology, I read Al Gore's first book Earth in Balance.a precursor to his award winning Inconvenient Truth. That’s when it hit me that nature and all of earth's species didn't have any rights, and pollution was killing everything slowly, including people. I believe the natural environment and people are interdependent and am dedicated to working towards achieving growth without further harm. As a result, early in my career I became very passionate about finding roles that use/monetize science. I sold hands on science experiences at Mad Science, where I ran the Montreal headquarters including sales, recruiting, accounting, and customer service. At the Institute for International Research (IIR), executive training company, I ran the sales department, and enjoyed motivating my enterprise, inside and telesales teams to be successful client centric sells consultants while learning about new verticals such as Tech, Mining and Pharma. After taking several years off to raise my family, during which I was an active Board Chair at their school, I was eager to rejoin the workforce. In 2020, I took a position as Co-founder and Strategic Partnership Officer at Climate Pi, an early-stage start-up aggregating climate best practices/tools/data, enabling cities around the world to track, measure, and scale emission reductions. There I’ve rapidly built an active network of data and funding partners from the ground up and have an 80% close rate securing city/corporate participation. Last year, to broaden my knowledge on latest in climate, I completed the Terra.do Learning for Action fellowship and was asked to stay on as a Community Ambassador hosting online programs for executives looking to learn more about the climate space. I also currently serve as Senior Fellow with Global Urban Development, a global think tank, where I work with over 500 high-profile urban leaders around the globe to educate and contribute to the research and success of climate innovation zones.
