About Leanne Janis

Experienced accountant and professor with a demonstrated history of driving profitability and process improvement. Skilled in For Profit Organizations, Costing, and Management, as well as a Subject Matter Expert in Accounting. Strong accounting professional with a Doctorate of Business Administration. As well as online instruction, I have more than twenty years of accounting experience, and for fourteen of those years I owned and operated my own accounting business. I have a passion for accounting and research, and one of my ongoing goals is to share my knowledge. In my current position, I have strong management and analytical accounting skills, that drive profitability, by creating innovative processes that support the accounting infrastructure that I have helped to build. My passions are teaching and accounting, so being able to teach others about accounting is a collaboration of my two passions. I believe that the fundamental goal of teaching is to foster learning. Students learn in different contexts, and online learners often have a unique perspective or experience that allows them to think critically about topics, given an opportunity. As an educator, I focus on student needs and communication, while encouraging participation and sharing of experiences. I motivate students by giving them examples from my own professional life. When I find students struggling, I strive to help them find new ways to comprehend the material. I use technology to keep the connection between learner and instructor strong. I frequently include real- life situations in my lectures and instructions, which help learners identify with me as a person and not just as their teacher, bringing personality to the classroom, and allowing students to feel comfortable asking questions and participating in discussions.
