About Leanne Markey

After many years working retail and being unhappy I decided it was my time to shine! I applied for a Lifestyle Support Worker position with RLOA and started the journey of supporting people living with disabilities! As a support worker I built and maintained some amazing relationships with participants and their families. I supported my participants to achieve their goals in ways they didn’t think were possible. Helping to achieve these goals and seeing the smiles on their faces and the pure joy makes me so very happy! After a few years in disability I landed a job as a children’s support worker. I am currently in this role now and I absolutely love working with the young people I support. I currently work as a Therapeutic Support Worker, assisting children and young people in out of home care services and family engagement. I assist with daily routines, transport to and from school, transport to and from social activities and appointments and facilitate and supervise family engagement sessions with the child/young person and their family members often their mothers and fathers. Being able to build relationships with these vulnerable children and earning their trust is a massive milestone considering the trauma some of them have had to endure in their short lifespan. This is something I am extremely proud of!
