About Leanne Rein

At sixteen, I applied for a job at my local pharmacy as a sales clerk. Working my way up to technician and then intern after starting pharmacy school allowed me extensive experience in community pharmacy. I thoroughly enjoyed being an integral part of the community and getting to know all of our patients. In the summers, I worked almost 40 hours per week. Throughout this time I learned about different roles such as inventory and store manager and learned from each pharmacist with whom I worked. Unfortunately, the pharmacy closed in 2013, but I was excited for the opportunity to be back in the community setting through my residency.A residency through the UTHSC COP Community Pharmacy program helped me reach my goals of learning to be a new practitioner and, after residency, becoming a pharmacist in a community setting. I strive to become established in this new setting by being involved in the community and developing great relationships and loyalty with my patients and the pharmacy team, which I found essential while working at my local pharmacy. I had the wonderful opportunity through this program to precept fourth year students and complete a teaching certificate.I have excellent time management and organizational skills. I also pay great attention to detail and I am able to communicate effectively with a diverse team, all of which I believe to be vital characteristics for success in community pharmacy. I am very passionate about diabetes education, prevention, and treatment, and have found every way I can to be involved in activities related to diabetes. As a student, I held positions on the executive committee for our chapter of NCPA and was the Operation Diabetes Committee Chair for APhA-ASP. I gained even more leadership experience through my year of residency. The relationships I have developed and the experiences I have gleaned from this residency are invaluable. I look forward to taking the skills and knowledge gained from this year into my next role.
