Going from an acquisitions editor in the dynamic and competitive world of Canadian book publishing to an HR professional at an independent school on Vancouver Island may not seem like a straightforward career path to most. However, as the philosophers agree,"You are where you are supposed to be." And in each stage of my evolving career, that sentiment has remained true. Two constants appear throughout my resume: a love of learning, and a talent for strategy. I am true believer in life-long learning, and I believe that every experience and every interaction has something to teach. Travel and exposure to different cultures have helped shape a global world view that is informed by the belief that there is more that brings us together than keeps us apart. Formally or informally, I am constantly seeking information to better myself as a leader, as an employee, as person, and as an avid trivial pursuit player. As an HR professional, I firmly believe that applied strategic HR practices help organizations excel in a way that develops and values its employees' contributions to organizational success. In every position I have held, I have helped to develop and implement strategic approaches to my workplace. I am a successful project manager and team builder, and I believe this is due to my belief that people must be held accountable to their work, and organizations must be held accountable to their values. In a recent collaborative project with former classmates, we called this "engineering serendipity." In my spare time, I enjoy exploring Vancouver Island with my family, hiking, and spending time with friends.
