About Lee Austin

As a Certified CISO with multiple industry leading certifications, including being externally endorsed as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), SANS SEC504 Incident Manager, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Supply Chain Risk Management (ISC2 - SCRM), Cyber Security DevOps & Leadership, JNCIA, and CCNA. I bring extensive expertise in managing and securing complex cybersecurity environments. I am also a volunteer school governor, contributing to the strategic direction, accountability, and financial oversight of a local school to help improve outcomes for students. I developed my foundation during 13 years in the British Army, specialising in strategic and tactical secure communications. This was further refined during my tenure as Cyber Security Manager at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), where I safeguarded critical systems within the Defence and National Security (DNS) sector. Currently, I lead the cybersecurity function at the University of Portsmouth, driving the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and technologies to protect the institution's digital ecosystem. Collaborating with a skilled team, I focus on proactively mitigating risks, detecting and responding to threats, and creating a secure foundation that supports the University’s mission of innovation, education, and research. I am passionate about cybersecurity and remain committed to professional development, staying ahead of evolving threats and trends to ensure the organisations I work for are resilient and secure.
