About Lee Brain

Lee Brain is the former two-term mayor for the City of Prince Rupert in British Columbia, Canada.As mayor, Lee was instrumental in building a major multi-stakeholder community engagement initiative that involved over community residents, small businesses, industry, community organizations, government, and Indigenous communities.Lee and his team were also successful in negotiating over $250 million dollars in new capital and long-term revenues for the City and helped take the community from flirting with bankruptcy to a more secure financial position within just a few years.During his time in office, Lee worked closely with the U.S. Consul General’s office on transboundary and trade relations between the Alaska and BC governments, and subsequently was accepted into the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2019 and is currently an active U.S. Exchange Alumni.Lee hosted various heads of state and ambassadors from countries such as South Korea, Singapore, Japan, China, U.S.A. & India, as he oversaw the third largest port community in Canada growing to over $50 billion dollars in annual trade revenues.Lee is a professional facilitator, mediator, team builder, and community engagement specialist. With 15 years of experience at all levels of government, non-profits and industry, Lee understands the principles and tools to align the values of communities and stakeholders, and inspire people to act through compelling storytelling techniques.Lee studied Developmental Psychology and Sustainable Community Development at Simon Fraser University. At SFU, he successfully completed the Undergraduate Semester in Dialogue Facilitation & Mediation program, in addition to a Certificate in Innovative Leadership.[2003 – 2009]
