About Lee MacQueen

Lee Macqueen is a development professional with twenty years of experience, specializing in Humanitarian and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Child Rights, and UN mechanisms. Lee's work encompasses community empowerment to prepare for disasters and climate challenges through social inclusion and rights-based approaches, gender and child-rights-informed initiatives, good governance, and risks and vulnerability-informed policies contributing to national and global development priorities. Her efforts bolster inclusive development, disaster management, and humanitarian programming through communities’ access to disaster relief and social protection programs, gender and child-centered policies and decision-making, and grassroots-based inter-agency advocacy. Recognized for focusing on social equity, she designs inclusive strategies and programmes for disaster resilience, women's leadership, and child rights and advises national and global development organizations. Lee has served on the NDMA Working group on developing the guidelines for NGOs and CBOs in Disaster Management (2010-14) and was active in the UN processes to the Sustainable Development Agenda and the Sendai Framework for DRR, 2015-30. As its first woman chairperson, she led the Sphere India network, a national coalition of humanitarian, DRR, Climate Change, and Development organizations (2022-24). A finalist for the UN Women’s International Network on Disaster Risk Reduction Award (#UNWINDRR, 2022), she has several research publications to her credit that have contributed to informing and advocating for inclusive DRR and climate change adaptation programs of the government and non-profits for the vulnerable and marginalized communities.
