About Leeza Roper
Welcome to my page! My name is Leeza Roper and I am an aspiring English and Deaf educator. I've spent four years at SUNY Oswego as an Adolescent Education major. Through my active participation in the education major, I was accepted into the MBK TOC II teacher preparation program, a New York State Education Department grant-funded program that was developed to increase the number of historically underrepresented individuals entering the teaching field. TOC II has awarded me opportunities to meet educational staff of color, develop social-emotional strategies, practice culturally-relevant teaching skills, and the list goes on. I am proud to say that I will be working in the Syracuse City School District as a English teacher as of Fall 2020. My next steps is to develop my American Sign Language proficiency as a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) through an interpreting program made for CODA. I would like to use my heritage-based knowledge in Deaf culture to assist deaf and hard-of-hearing students and develop cultures in any school community. Thank you for visiting my page!
