About Leigha Williams

As a recent graduate from Georgia Southern’s Master of Arts in Social Science program, I have chosen a more unconventional route for myself. As an undergraduate, I was accepted as an intern for the Spring ‘19 semester in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s office. While there, I gained hands-on experience working with skeletal remains, as well as more recent deaths in the morgue. During my time in the two year Masters of social Sciences program, I continued gaining more hands-on experience with skeletal remains during independent study courses focusing on skeletal remains both historic and more modern. After graduating, I traveled across the Southeast as a an archaeological field technician and then became a Mortuary Archaeologist for New South Associates in Stone Mountain, Ga. As a student at Georgia Southern University, I chose not to limit myself in the courses I took and the volunteer opportunities available to me. I volunteered in the school’s archaeology lab gaining knowledge in archaeological curation practices, zooarchaeology, and general laboratory practices. I also helped in the sorting and classification of artifacts for a now former graduate student’s thesis.
