About Leighann Morris

Following my art history degree, I spent the first part of my career developing programmes to make the arts more accessible, before training as a secondary teacher and delivering exceptional learning experiences for young people as an English specialist in an outstanding girls school in Dulwich. This year, I left my role as an experienced full-time teacher of KS3, KS4 and KS5 English and Art History. Despite my achievements after five years as a passionate practitioner in the teaching profession, I am increasingly frustrated by the limitations of ‘mastery’ style learning in mainstream settings; the lack of creativity possible when confined to a rigid curriculum with little space to explore and discover, and finally the pressures put on both teachers and students in this learning environment. As a Goldsmiths and IoE-trained practitioner with exceptional results; a strong knowledge of pedagogy and trends, changes, and challenges in curriculum; and as teacher who runs an art history club that regularly engages with education programmes at galleries, I am interested in teaching in a progressive and modern environment where learning can be holistic, connected to the real world, flexible and creative.
