Background
About Lena Edman
Interaction design, UX, service design, usabillity experts, concept designers, GUI, UI etc. In the end It's all about understanding people and the contexts they spend their lives in to be able to design for them, regardless of design field. I believe we designers need to be good at moving between the larger birds eye view of the situation and people we are designing for and the details that enables the experience. I also believe in the importance of actionable outcomes. What ever we create should have a clear purpose and should help us move forward and stay on track. If a journey, persona or backlog doesn’t do that for us, then scrap it and rethink. I acknowledge the fact that we can’t design experiences. That is all owned by the individuals own perception and choice of action. We can only design the tools and processes that enables the experience we are aiming for, and hope for the best. I strongly believe we need to be observers. Observers of society, of culture, of behaviors and all thing infuencing our human experience. We can not only emerge ourselves in the newest things being developed. We can’t spend all our time being users of services, new tech and listen to what experts have to say about design. We wont be good designers by knowing everything about Tesla or Uber or Googles design system. We have a responsibility to understand people more than the stuff we create and that is the hard part worth spending time on. Designing for excellent experience is important but lets not forget the larger picture beyond the single moment of an experience. What about designing for long term wellbeing, designing for the greater good, designing for supporting good habits and healthy lifestyles and a thriving planetary ecosystem. Go beyond design for “feel good” values and instant gratification. I believe in the power of our process. It’s a creative problem solving process and so far I haven’t heard of a designer being confronted with an unsolvable problem so. Designers have the power to change things. Lets stop saying we are slaves to bussiness driven agendas that has no concern for peole and lets be responsible for what we put out there to the world. Lets get creative about it.
