Leo Asen: Key volunteer role in AARP New York State (Past President of the Executive Council)/lead volunteer Member of AARP National Policy Council/Volunteer Advisory Council Prior senior leader in large and complex human services organization (Chief Innovation Officer) and financial services Strong commitment to advocating for 50+ adults and improving lives via more financial equity, affordable housing, healthcare access, addressing isolation and disrupting racial and ethnic disparities Collaborated with wide range of stakeholder groups to create the Virtual Senior Center in 2010 which received global recognition as a major innovation Leo Asen joined Selfhelp Community Services in 2003 and for many years led the Senior Communities Division consisting of important home and community based services. As Chief Innovation Officer, Leo Asen developed a leadership role for Selfhelp in the creative use of new technologies (telehealth and more) and social care to support independent living. His leadership of the Selfhelp Virtual Senior Center has helped earn acclaim for the initiative among international experts on aging, trade associations, philanthropic foundations, the City of New York and influential media including CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Forbes. Leo Asen also played a key role in building relationships with Selfhelp funders. Leo Asen participated as a Commissioner of CAST (Center for Aging Services Technologies) a program of LeadingAge (a national membership organization); served as President of LeadingAge New York’s Community Based Services Cabinet; was a member of the LeadingAge New York Board of Directors; and a member of the Age-Friendly NYC Technology Work Group. Leo Asen has spoken at national as well as state conferences. Prior to joining Selfhelp, Leo Asen had more than 30 years of management experience within the Financial Services Industry including senior executive positions dealing with finance and technology. Leo Asen is now AARP New York State President Emeritus (volunteer). Leo Asen received an MBA in Financial Management with Distinction from Pace University, and a BSME / IE from the University of Toledo.
